BTCPay Server is an open-source, self-hosted payment processor that lets merchants accept bitcoin without intermediaries or transaction fees, and integrates with e-commerce platforms such as WooCommerce, Magento and Shopify. At the Baltic Honeybadger conference it processed payments for 20 merchants and contactless payments through more than 500 bolt cards, and it later ran point-of-sale payments at a bitcoin conference in Madeira. The article notes that bitcoin payment volumes remain low, with many vendors seeing few transactions outside conferences and events.
Musqet focuses on in-store payments for small merchants, with a single interface for fiat and bitcoin. Merchants can hold their own bitcoin keys or convert payments to fiat instantly through an exchange partner, and the company is adding an online payment gateway. Ben de Waal, Musqet’s CTO, says the company is focusing on the practical problems merchants face in adopting bitcoin.
