Craig Wright's Legal Battle Over Satoshi's Identity Unravels In Court

During the COPA v Wright trial in London in February 2024, Craig Wright exclaimed “But I AM Satoshi!” under cross-examination by Jonathan Hough KC for COPA. Wright admitted that some documents he had relied on were forged, after COPA highlighted discrepancies such as fonts that were not available when the documents were supposedly created. He blamed former solicitors, disgruntled employees, hackers and anomalies in his IT environment.

The court nearly withdrew the trial livestream after a photo of Hodlonaut, who had won a defamation case against Wright in Norway, was taken from it and posted online. The article notes CoinGeek’s April 2019 report that Wright had offered a $5,000 bounty for Hodlonaut’s identity. Wright also denied being bankrolled by Calvin Ayre, calling the money a loan, and waived privilege, prompting his lawyer to describe him as a “vulnerable witness.”
