Nomura's Laser Digital Launches Bitcoin Fund For Institutional Investors

In September 2023, Laser Digital Asset Management, a subsidiary of Nomura, launched its Bitcoin Adoption Fund to give institutional investors exposure to bitcoin, and said it planned to introduce further digital asset investment products. The fund formed part of Laser Digital Funds SPC, a segregated portfolio company registered as a mutual fund, with custody provided by Komainu, a regulated custodian established in 2018 by Nomura, Ledger and CoinShares.

Head of Laser Digital Asset Management Sebastien Guglietta, previously Chief Scientist Officer at Nomura, said that long-term exposure to bitcoin offered investors a way to capture a macro trend driven by technology. Fiona King, who led distribution, said the fund gave institutional investors “a secure path into digital asset investment.” A correction note explains that the fund is managed solely by Laser Digital rather than by its parent company, Nomura.
